Sex Education? Yes, No, Maybe?
Or something like that…  Seeing as the whole day started with going to a set of a music video, you would think that it wouldn’t have turned out as strange as it did. They were shooting a hip-hop music video at a club. There were tons of extras there and what I found to be most interesting was how the director handled them all. He gave each of them a job and got them all where they...

♫ ♫ ♫ "I'll Be There For You" ♫ ♫ ♫
♫ ♫ ♫ “… Cause you’re there for me too.” ♫ ♫ ♫  We started out our Wednesday by going to a lovely taping of Dr. Phil once again. This time we started with a behind the scenes tour- it was great to be able to see the control room and look around back stage. It was a great opportunity because there is so much that goes into a show like Dr. Phil than just the Doctor talking...

GLEE... and other things...
I have to learn to not say that today is my favorite day ever because I just love so many things about this trip. Today especially because we started our amazing adventures at Paramount Studios. We went around all the lots while listening to our very knowledgeable tour guide. I saw the studio where many of the indoor shots of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was filmed. awe were very fortunate to also...

I Froze In California Today, How Fair Is That?
Today we left for our 9 to 5 temporary job as a Production Assistant today. We were lucky enough to be able to work at Central City Studios with set dressing. They do things from hospitals to police stations for people to rent out for their movies. They shot parts of movies like Batman Dark Knight and Mission Impossible 4 there. It’s really a great space and they not only think of what the...

...And A Puma! *Click*
Yesterday we had an epic adventure! Climbing the heights to make our way to the big Hollywood sign and climbing over the fence so that we can sit on the letters and take the best group photo yet! Okay, so maybe climbing the fence is illegal and only done in movies like Friends With Benefits, but you know it would have made an awesome photo.  We did climb our way up a trail though that got us...

Don't Kill Nobody's Fish!
I’m not going to lecture you all today about the guest lectures because that would seem quite long seeing as our group sat through about 5 today. So I’m going to talk about my favorite two, Joe Fazzio and Colleen Everson.  What do these two speakers have in common? Well they both graduated from Ithaca College, they both work for the writing aspect of the film industry and they both...

The Office... Colors... and MEN!
Our day started with a great tour of the set of the show The Office! It is a very unique set, unlike the NCIS set we visited earlier this trip, this set was in one building and looked like you were in the actually office building. For the first little while I forgot it was a set and built just for filming. It made me really appreciate the art direction though. The little things is really what...

Let's Get Real Here! Feast or Famine?
We got to go to one of the most amazing stores in all of Los Angeles, to my knowledge of LA so far at least, The Writer’s Shop. The store was full of all sorts of books and supplies for screenwriters and filmmakers. If I had more money I probably would have spent all of my money in that store they had a book on everything from horror writing to forensics. It was beautiful.  The reason we...

E! Tour, No Creative Title Here!
To start off our day we went to a show taping of The Soup. It was a different experience from watching Doctor Phil, not only in content of the show, but also the role of the audience and what the stage looks like. For those of you who don’t know what The Soup is, it’s a TV show hosted by Joel McHale that adds humor to make a 20 minute show about different shows that are on the air....

Good Cop, Bad Cop, and a Doctor.
Today was a day that a little piece of everything that I love in life somehow magically, well maybe not so magically because my professors are all amazing people and help us set up these great experiences, came true. We started the morning by attending a show taping of Doctor Phil. It was a great chance for us to see how live tapings work, beyond just what we see on TV. The pages work so hard at...

It's About Who You Know!
My on going fight with my sickness came to a closer end as I was well enough to attend a guest speaker session at the Ramada. We set up with our notepads and a few of us with cameras to gather up some information from people who have been working in the industry.  One of the most important things that I gathered from all of our guest speakers today was that the industry is really small and it is...

I Will Survive!
I can’t decide if I like the colder weather of SanFran better than I like the hot weather of Los Angeles, but either way our first adventure of the day happened to be going grocery shopping. Unfortunately my roommate and I have fallen ill with the common cold (I hope that’s all it is) so I did the whole shopping spree for the both of us. After a short rest when we got back, shopping...

The Golden Gate Bridge - Goodbye SanFran!
After a very fast week we concluded our last day in San Francisco. We had to be checked out of our hotel by 11 and played tetris as our teacher helped us figure out the best way to fit over 20 suitcases and carry-ons into the vans.  What better way to spend the last few hours of our day here in SanFran than to go to the Golden Gate state park for one last group picture.  We still had a little...

Ready? Say Cheese!
Today was the first of our Cultural Days. It was a little break from all the lectures we have been attending but by no means was a vacation. It was an opportunity for us to go out into San Francisco and shoot some photos or video for our demo reals or other recreational purposes.  We spent the first part of our day taking pictures at the Golden Gate Bridge… it was great to be able to take...

My Adventures With C-3PO!
I would love to start my blog off by telling you about an amazing experience about the Star Wars Studio ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) but my day started with a lovely lecture and visit to the Disney Family Museum and 2 guest lectures from an employee and former employee of ILM. Anthony Shafer started his presentation with his demo real, which broke down the animation from Pirates of...

Sony Day! :)
January 4th meant that today we went to Sony to take a tour and listen to some guest speakers. The day started somewhat latter than normal, we didn’t have the tour until 1pm so that gave me some time to catch up on some well needed rest before departing for the best day of my trip so far!  I never really thought about the gaming industry before. I thought it was all animation and...

Chocolate Chip Cookies! Yum!
Later that evening we headed over to a fellow classmate’s Aunt and Uncle’s house to learn more about what they do being former employees of Industrial Light and Magic (ILM). We all had a lovely dinner of pizza and chocolate chip cookies but more importantly got to look at another side of animation.  Her Aunt even brought two modelers to speak with us that evening as well. We learned...

A Stranger From The Outside!
Our first stop, after a lovely shopping trip to Target, was none other than Pixar Animation Studios. After being prepped in our Hollywood trip class with an amazing documentary (that I would highly recommend renting) we had the amazing experience to visit the studio and talk to a few of the people who work there. I felt that I learned a lot about keep moving forward and making deadlines. Skills...

There is a Solution!
The tarot cards were right! After a slight delay in our flight yesterday we finally landed in California at roughly 1am Cali time. It was one of those things where you just have to let the adventure happen and hope that the airport cooperates with everyone. Our little group of four was stuck for awhile in Newark but lucky enough American Airlines helped us out!
